How to Diagnose Car Leakage

auto euro tech

To find out if there is a leak in your vehicle, you can pull it from the garage and examine the liquid. Place a piece or white cardboard underneath your car to determine the source and color. The chart below will help you determine where the leak is most likely to be. If you are unsure of the source of the leak, you can consult your owner's manual to determine what type of fluid is leaking.

Signs that a car is leaking are common

There are many signs that indicate a leaky car. You should check your exhaust pipe if you notice increased engine noise. While a small exhaust leak might be harmless, a larger leak could lead to loud engine noise that echoes throughout the vehicle. Acceleration may cause the noise to increase in volume. This could indicate that your car has an excessive amount of exhaust. Failure of the emissions test can also be caused by a leaky exhaust pipe.

Common leak sources

Leakages are always a concern in a car, especially when they occur while driving. Cars are dependent on a range of fluids for proper operation. These liquids can easily leak if they're not fixed promptly. Below are some of the most common causes of car leaks. Antifreeze is one the most popular fluids. If it freezes in your engine, it can cause a leak in your car.

Take your car for a test drive to make sure there are no leaks

It is necessary to test-drive the vehicle in order to determine if there are any leaks. You must drive the car in a straight, smooth, long road without any traffic. If you can, try to lean the car forward with your wheels turned sharply. Be attentive for any popping, crackling or creaking sounds coming from the car. If the noise persists, the vehicle may have a problem. If you have any doubts, take the car to a professional for inspection. It is important to inspect the motor mounts, front-end, and CV joints.

To find a leak, use a pressure tester

A pressure tester can be used to find the source of a leak in your cooling system. This device pumps air into the cooling system and simulates coolant expansion as the engine heats up. The coolant expands and the pressure in the system increases, which can indicate a leak. Attach the tester to radiator top and pump the water until the gauge matches the pressure cap. The ideal pressure should be between two and three psi. It should also decrease by approximately a quarter-inch.
